The apparent change of colour to the kit was down to a chemical put on the pitch by the Clarets. The Daily Mail reported that the chemical was put down to treat a nematode or roundworm problem. Drastic action has been taken to clean the kits and return them to their original white. An industrial stain remover was used after Boro had returned home, but even that failed to do the trick. It is claimed that Boro officials have been left fuming and are even thought to be considering a complaint to the EFL. The club would be seeking compensation from the Lancashire-based outfit.
