Micky van de Ven, 25, told the club’s website:: “It’s a special moment to sign a new deal and a proud moment for me and my family. “I’ve always loved Spurs, from the first day I stepped in here. I love the Club, I love the fans and I’ve developed really well here. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! “It’s clear the direction the Club wants to go in and I want to be a part of it. I’m excited about what’s to come.” His commitment is particularly significant with defensive partner Cristian Romero expected to leave North London this summer. SunSport revealed World Cup winner Romero, 28, is OPEN to joining Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal. The Gunners are understood to be interested in the Argentine, while Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are also admirers. But Spurs have NO intention of selling Romero to Arsenal and a high-level club source has told SunSport they would not entertain doing business with their fiercest rivals. Romero still has three years remaining on his contract, leaving Tottenham in a strong negotiating position over his future. Nobody has crossed the North London divide in either direction since William Gallas joined Tottenham after leaving Arsenal in 2010. While uncertainty surrounds Romero, Spurs have now ensured Van de Ven will remain a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans. The Netherlands international captained Tottenham for the final six matches of last season and is closing in on 100 appearances for the club. He has played 96 times and scored ten goals, having featured 45 times in all competitions last term. Boss De Zerbi said: “Micky is one of the best centre-backs in Europe and an important player for us. “He has the qualities, mentality and ambition that we want at Tottenham Hotspur, and I am very happy that he has decided to continue his journey with the Club. “We are building something strong here, and players like Micky are an important part of that future.” Spurs will feel the re-signing of Van de Ven is another booster to an already strengthened squad – alongside marquee arrivals like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and fellow Dutchman Jan Paul van Hecke. The squad has also been heavily reinforced with the experienced depth of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka. Comment now
