Mickey’s Sheriff Country Season 2 Villain Is Improbable To Beat

She has interviewed various actors and showrunners, with her most memorably being Tony Shalhoub and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Sheriff Country's season 1 finale delivered a deliciously soapy arc for season 2. A twist neither the characters nor viewers saw coming made it clear that Morena Baccarin's show is groundbreaking. Eva Santos isn't just a problematic DEA deputy director; she's Mickey Fox's biological mother. Mickey has spent her whole life believing her mother had died. She even told the full story of how her mom, Maria, was arrested along with her dad, and she ended up dying while in jail. It set up a life of trauma and pain that no little girl should have to go through. Discovering her mom was still alive made everyone's jaw drop, and then it opened up a world of questions. Redemption will be a major theme this season: how will the show explain why a mom would willingly leave her daughter behind? The plot will also tackle questions of misogyny, because a father choosing his career would be frustrating, but more acceptable than a mother doing the same thing. Sheriff Country season 2 isn't afraid to turn the tables, creating a personal villain Mickey will find difficult to beat. Mickey won't be able to defeat her in the old-fashioned way, setting up a juicy season-long plot full of family drama. The best way to defeat her is to repair a different relationship while also looking inward and forming tighter bonds with the friends Mickey has around her, including Skye, now that Amanda Arcuri has been upped to series regular for Sheriff Country season 2. Sheriff Country Allows Eva To Be The Villain CBS The end of Sheriff Country season 1 opened a can of worms that season 2 has to address. By revealing that Eva Santos is actually Mickey's mother, whom she believed had died almost 40 years earlier, it brought up questions about Eva's actions and her potential redemption. Viewers will want to understand why Mickey's mother would even consider faking her death, breaking her six-year-old's heart. Fathers choosing their careers is more common, but the show featuring a mother making that choice is a bold move. It creates opportunities for dramatic, unexpected storytelling. Interestingly, the Sheriff Country season 2 premiere shows Eva isn't in town for redemption. She never explains herself to Mickey, making it clear that she is more than happy to be a villain in the sheriff's story. Eva is fully focused on the task at hand, proving she's still putting her career first, and nothing will change that. Her presence is an emotional reckoning for Mickey. Sure, she isn't the show's villain — at least not in the traditional, procedural sense — but she is a villain to some. Mickey isn't the only one who sees her as the bad guy in this tale. Wes is angry that she faked her death all those years ago and broke his heart, and Skye can't understand how a woman could choose her career over her family. Viewers get to see the real story, and maybe that will come out eventually, but Eva has shown she is happy to be the antagonist, making her impossible to beat. What could make her break? Redeeming Eva Isn't Needed For Mickey's Story CBS While the show trying to have Mickey attempt to understand her mom or hear her out would be the obvious route, that's not what Sheriff Country needs to succeed this season. Mickey's personal development can come from realizing that she doesn't need all the answers, and she definitely doesn't need to forgive her mom for her actions. While Mickey has always tried to handle her problems herself, this arc offers her the chance to lean on others, whether it's Boone or Travis. In fact, the best development would be for Mickey and Wes to work things out. While Wes has made mistakes and put his illegal activities first, he has always stayed. He has wanted to be part of Mickey's life, and he has tried to change his ways, for both her and Skye. He reverted when he felt disillusioned, but his heart has always been in the right place. Sheriff Country makes Eva a villain Mickey doesn't need to defeat, because not caring about Eva is the biggest win. New episodes of Sheriff Country season 2 air every Friday, 8 pm ET on CBS.
