The series also chose to skip over Connelly's third book in the series, The Reversal, for reasons beyond Netflix's overall control. Without licensing of the Harry Bosch character, which belongs to Prime Video because of the Bosch franchise, the story would've felt incomplete. Unfortunately, The Reversal has one of Mickey Haller's wildest cases, meaning Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer is missing out on a prime storyline. What Happens To Mickey Haller During The Reversal Case In The Reversal, Haller is called to work as a special prosecutor by the district attorney, handling a high-profile retrial. In the novel, Haller crosses the aisle to prosecute for Jason Jessup, who was convicted of a child's murder, but freed after serving 24 years when new evidence came to light. The case brings Haller, his half-brother Harry Bosch, and his ex-wife Maggie McPherson together to work through the investigation and trial, which has disastrous results. Despite the difficulties of the case and beyond, seeing Mickey work with Bosch and Maggie is exciting as it plays out on the page. Seeing Mickey work as a prosecutor is a different avenue for Connelly books, as he's traditionally a defense attorney. The skill set feels vastly different, and Mickey has to work in a fairly different manner than he's used to throughout the novel, which would be interesting to see on screen. Unfortunately, bringing Bosch into the world of The Lincoln Lawyer is an impossible feat, at least in the way that the books have it laid out. Despite Cobie Smulders joining the series as Mickey's half-sister Artemisia “Emi” Finch, a quasi-Bosch, The Lincoln Lawyer couldn't move forward without direct Bosch involvement. The Netflix show's most recent season saw Maggie (Neve Campbell), Mickey's ex-wife who's traditionally a prosecutor, cross the aisle and switch things up as she served as Mickey's defense attorney. The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, which was based off Connelly's novel The Law of Innocence, sees Mickey framed for the murder of Sam Scales, and Maggie's move across the aisle becomes a huge part of the season's intense story arc. Though Mickey himself didn't cross the aisle, getting the chance to see one of the show's lawyers go from one side to the other was still a huge shift for the series. Maggie, who spends the prior seasons in a very specific role, is able to be a difference maker when it comes to Mickey's case, taking on a defensive role that looks a lot different than what she traditionally does. Incorporating Connelly's twist in the best way it could, The Lincoln Lawyer had a sense of its source material even in moments where it didn't seem possible.
