As designers and artists alike will attest, a picture frame recontextualizes its subject. As part of an expansion of its custom framing offerings, the craft store Michaels has partnered with AD to release a curated collection of editorial-inspired mouldings, each designed to evoke a different mood. The first, inspired by vintage luxury, is a mottled gold frame with bead wood. If you’re after the look of an antique sourced from a French flea market, the soft patina of this frame offers a tasteful shortcut. For a more contemporary style, there’s a double step float frame with subtle wood grain in a sleek black hue. On the flip side, a distressed barn wood frame gives off an organic, craftsman-style vibe in a warm walnut tone. Another option embraces eclectic maximalism with ornately scrolled wood and a gilded finish for instant drama. The final look is a Space Age–inspired number with a beveled edge and a metallic silver finish. The five frames are available now, though the collaboration is just getting started; the collection will later expand with an additional 10 mouldings for a total of 15 offerings. The collaboration is rolling out with five pieces but will expand to 15 total.
