Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy Announce 2027 Tour Celebrating R.E.M.’s Document

R.E.M. superfans Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy have mapped out a 2027 North American tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of Document by playing the album in full alongside other R.E.M. classics. The actor and guitarist will kick off the trek on February 3rd in Denver, with subsequent stops in Portland, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn, Washington, DC, and many more, including a two-night stint in R.E.M.’s hometown of Athens, Georgia. The general on-sale begins Friday, October 2nd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. “This is the album that introduced me to the band. If you had told me when I was a kid that some day I’d get up on stage and perform it, I wouldn’t be able to comprehend, probably even believe, that,” Shannon shared in a statement. “Feels like it was recorded yesterday to address the calamity of tomorrow… a pinnacle of songwriting and craftsmanship unseen beforehand and unmatched… that is until the next R.E.M. record, as always.” Narducy added, “When I was sixteen, my friends and I drove from Evanston to Madison — probably looking for trouble. I walked into a record store and saw a new R.E.M. album on display. It was the first R.E.M. record I purchased. The first song was ‘Finest Worksong’ and I felt deeply connected to the music, the lyrics, the energy. I cannot wait to join the band to play these songs.” Shannon and Narducy will be joined by Jon Wurster (drums), John Stirratt (bass), Dag Juhlin (guitar), and Vijay Tellis-Nayak (keyboards). In addition, R.E.M. members could make surprise appearances at any given show. In 2025, the entire group reunited at a Shannon and Narducy show in Athens to play “Pretty Persuasion,” with Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry rotating on and off the stage. This past March, Michael Stipe stepped onstage in Brooklyn to sing “These Days” and “The Great Beyond.” Ahead of the tour, Narducy will release his second book, Mostly the Van (Volume Two), on November 17th, recounting his days as a working musician.
