Inspired by the French Le Bureau des Légendes and starring Fassbender as CIA officer Martian, the high-stakes thriller was created by sibling duo Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. It debuted on Paramount+ and Showtime in December 2024, receiving a swift renewal due to strong viewership. The notable cast also includes Jodie Turner-Smith, Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere. The Agency season 2 returned in June. There have been no updates about the show's future since then. But according to a new report from The Ankler's Lesley Goldberg, the Fassbender spy saga is among the Paramount+ Originals that are slated to return. The report comes in the context of examining the future of the Paramount+ streamer and how executives will approach its programming slate given the potential merger with Warner Bros. The Agency season 3 is listed alongside confirmed returning dramas, including Mayor of Kingstown, Dutton Ranch and Tulsa King.
