Michael Douglas has revealed he once erupted at Julia Roberts during a Golden Globes party in 1990 at the height of his addiction with alcohol and drugs'I was there for Wall Street, and Julia was there for Mystic Pizza. She was dating Kiefer Sutherland and brought him to an after-party. I took Cameron, who was around thirteen. We were at the bar, and Julia had her arm around my son, kind of nuzzling him. To me, in that moment, he looked stunned... but I was pretty drunk.'I told her, "Take your hands off my son and take that Golden Globe and stick it where the sun don't shine".The next morning, my producing partner Rick Bieber called me and said, "We need to talk, Michael." I'd crossed a line with the most in-demand young actress in Hollywood.'I sent Julia roses with an apology for my behavior, and then back in the production office, I apologized to her and Kiefer in person. Luckily, they forgave me enough to get through that and finish the picture. I remained friends with Kiefer. Julia, not so much.'Michael is incredibly candid in the book, having finally decided 'it's time to tell my story on my own terms'.Explaining why now was the time to set the record straight, he vowed to share 'not the highlight reel, not the version shaped by headlines or box office numbers, but the real one'. Michael continued: 'I've lived a life that unfolded in public while being deeply private at the same time, and there's a difference. This is about where I came from, what I fought against, and what I chose for myself. 'Fame can blur the truth; this is my attempt to bring it back into focus.' He mused: 'I didn’t have any intention of doing anything else – hell, I was 25 years older than she was. 'It might never have gone further than that, until I read an interview where Catherine said she liked older men. I said to myself, "Hey, I’ve got a shot".' The pair met that year at the Deauville film festival and after a night spent talking, he recalled: 'In a moment of temporary insanity, I blurted out: "I’m going to be the father of your children".'
