Beginning with the former, Tuscaloosa hosted East Carolina. Head coach Kalen DeBoer sent Keelon Russell out there for his first-ever start, delivering in a big way. Russell and the Alabama offense looked quite good, and the defense played to its normal standard. More questions existed on the other side. Kentucky is officially one game into the Will Stein era. After Mark Stoops had been on the UK sideline for a long time, something new provided excitement. Beating Youngstown State only adds to the equation. Stein can maybe break the hype meter with a win over Alabama. First-year head coaches are always looking for signature moments, and taking down DeBoer’s squad would be a big one. Because recent history in this matchup has been quite rude to Kentucky. Alabama currently has an eight-game win streak, dating back to 2003. The all-time series record sits at 39-2-1 in favor of the Crimson Tide. Pulling off the upset would be a cause for celebration. Stein might have more than the one beer he vowed to have after the Youngstown State win. Kentucky fans would, in all likelihood, join their head coach. Alabama fans are looking to show why the traders have them as a 10.5-point favorite. Starting 2-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play is what needs to happen for them. As the schedule gets tougher, the margin for error would only diminish.
