Michael Carrick gives Man Utd transfer update as he hails ‘new signing’ Marcus Rashford

MICHAEL CARRICK insists Manchester United could still be active in the transfer market before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline. Shaw admitted he was “disappointed and angry with myself” over his defending against Abdul Fatawu before he crossed for Davis, but it is unclear whether United will bring in competition for the 31-year-old. United wanted Newcastle left back Lewis Hall but their new manager Matthias Jaissle said there was “no chance” of the England international leaving. When asked about the possibility of any more incomings, Carrick replied: “It’s always difficult to say, to be honest, when there’s so little time left. “I think the situation that we’re in, I think the business that we’ve managed to do, I’m pleased with. “I think we’re a better group, a better squad, potentially a better team. Adding Marcus (Rashford) into that feels like a new signing. “So, in that respect, we’re quite happy. We’re always open to if there’s something else to be able to add, so I wouldn’t shut that down. Carrick said: “[I’m] really pleased with Marcus. I thought he dealt with the whole day as normal, really. “I’m sure it was nice for him to be back and starting games here and enjoying being involved in a good performance. “I thought he did particularly well in not easy circumstances, particularly as the game was going through the cycle. “And then second half, it all clicked. So, I thought he did very good all-round and he’ll only get better. “So, I was really pleased with him. “He’s adding to the group for us, for sure, because it’s pretty obvious. But I’ve known him for a while, and then he wasn’t here when I’ve come back, and now he is. “So, I think he’s making the most of that for us and for him as well to have the opportunity to be here. “He’s one of our own, you know. He’s living his dream, playing here now and trying to be successful and win. “So, whatever’s gone on, I think part of this club, there’s players that have come and come back sometimes, or players that maybe were going to leave, didn’t leave. “It’s always about what you do next and what your intentions are. “He’s been fantastic since he came back, I have to say, and it was great to see him on the pitch today for us.” Comment now
