Michael B Jordan executes a daring heist to steal Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers in a new trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair.The upcoming romantic heist film is a second remake of the 1968 original.Jordan plays the title character, a billionaire who steals a painting and is then pursued by an insurance investigator, which develops into a cat and mouse game.The movie – which Jordan has directed, produced and starred in – has been billed as a “visually breathtaking, sensual and unexpectedly moving heist thriller, where the most dangerous man in the room is the one nobody’s watching”.The 90-second trailer kicks off with Crown walking up a grand staircase dressed in a white suit, before a voiceover says he has been “taking risks my entire life… but last night was different”.He is then seen walking into a secret room full of paintings, as well as scaling a building.A clip then shows him at a racetrack going head-to-head with Sir Kenneth Branagh, before the trailer cuts to him in a dark room admiring Van Gogh’s artwork.Throughout the trailer he teases the heist, saying: “I felt alive. My heart was racing. Every step was part of a plan. Things slowed down. It was silent. And I was surprised… how easy it was.Jordan won the best actor award at this year’s Oscars (Doug Peters/ PA)PA Wire“But I’m not finished yet… that’s what excites me.”Things appear to take a turn after he flips his car and is watched by a woman – played by Adria Arjona – who he looks to have a romantic entanglement with despite her telling him mysteriously “I know exactly who you are” when he first introduces himself.The trailer also shows Crown fighting an unnamed opponent before appearing to go on the run after Sir Kenneth notices his artwork is missing.Speaking to Variety last year, Jordan – who won the Oscar for best actor for his starring role in Sinners – said he “didn’t want a reboot” of The Thomas Crown Affair.He said: “I wanted a reimagination. The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today. Ours is more personal. The stakes are higher. Still got the fashion, romance.”This version also stars Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbaek.
