Metal Gear Solid 6 Leaves Fans Split, And We Can See Why

Whichever one your favorite happens to be, they have already secured their legacies as some of the all-time great releases. That said, series creator Hideo Kojima permanently left Konami in 2015 after finishing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and the series has been in limbo ever since. The chances of it coming back at some point aren't zero, but there are plenty of fans out there questioning whether it even needs to return at all. Over on Reddit, one user shared a post asking for the general consensus on whether we need a Metal Gear Solid 6, saying they really didn't see why anyone would want it. It's an interesting point, and there was a wide variety of opinions from the community about the best course of action. "While I do agree modern Konami probably wouldn't produce everything good, I feel like people forget that Kojima himself was constantly trying to hand off the MGS series to other creatives in his studio since MGS3 wrapped," one comment read. Another felt differently, saying, "I want Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 remakes after Delta. Those are really what I want next." "Not sure but I’m not a fan of the 'Metal Gear can’t exist without Kojima' thinking. A team of people make the series, not one dude," a third added. Another suggested an interesting path, under a different post, saying, "What they should do is remake Metal Gear Ghost Babel IMO. It takes place after the first Metal Gear but in its own continuity that was pretty intriguing. Making a new timeline separated from Kojima's would make it less likely that fans would be overtly critical while continuing the series." Without deifying Kojima, it is difficult to see how Konami could overcome the attachment fans have to his lead without making a genuine, all-time great game. If they feel they can do that, then more power to them, but if confidence is low, it might be better left alone, at least for the time being. What Is Hideo Kojima Working On Now? It is being co-written and developed with Oscar-winning Get Out director Jordan Peele, and it has already accrued an all-star cast including Hunter Schafer and Sophia Lillis. As for Metal Gear Solid, remakes probably do feel like the best path at this juncture, and saying goodbye to the franchise entirely is a bridge too far.
