Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang says young people should use AI agents as a second brain. He believes AI agents — AI tools that can handle tasks and work towards a goal autonomously— can be more than just tools for getting work done. He sees them as a way to help people organise their thoughts, turn ideas into action and work towards ambitions they might otherwise struggle to pursue. Wang says he uses Meta’s Muse AI as his own second brain to set up workflows and help manage his work.In a conversation with entrepreneur and podcast host David Senra, Wang explained how AI agents could help people turn their ideas into reality. Giving his own example, he said he uses Muse to set up workflows and lets the AI agent handle tasks on his behalf. “I set up a bunch of workflows and like kind of treated as like a second brain,” he said.Wang believes personal AI agents can help people get past everyday obstacles and focus on what they really want to do. “I really believe in Muse. I believe in the personal agent as like a long-term form factor,” he added. But for Wang, AI is about more than productivity. He believes it can help people, especially younger generations, pursue dreams that might otherwise seem out of reach. “Like you're a kid, you have big dreams, use AI, help make those things happen,” Wang said during the conversation. He added that people could then “dream bigger, make those things happen” and continue pursuing increasingly ambitious goals. Why Meta is betting big on AI agentsWang also explained why Meta decided to take a different approach from rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic. While much of the AI industry was focused on building coding agents, Meta, according to Wang, believed personal AI offered a different opportunity.Wang said Meta believed it could make a difference by focusing on personal AI. “It's not work. It's not coding. It's personal,” he said. He explained that Meta’s strength lies in its consumer apps, which help people connect with friends and family, discover interests and follow their hobbies. The company wants to build on that foundation with personal AI agents that can help people with tasks beyond work and software development. Wang said Meta’s broader ambition is to build what the company calls personal superintelligence — AI that supports people in their everyday lives and helps them achieve their goals. He believes the technology could take care of many routine tasks, giving people more time for the things they enjoy.“And the promise of AGI is that we're going to spend almost none of the time doing things that we have to do because the AIs will just start doing a lot of that for us and we can spend all of our time on things that we want to do,” he said.Meanwhile, Meta is also working to make its personal AI agents more capable and reliable. Wang said the team spent months refining Muse and focused on improving more than 100 specific behaviours and capabilities needed for an ideal personal agent. The goal, he explained, is to make the experience reliable enough for everyday users, rather than one that delivers impressive results only occasionally.- Ends
