His family decided on Monday to remove him from life support.“Derek is comfortable, surrounded by family, and enveloped in the music he loved so much,” his family said in a social-media post. “Thank you for every prayer, every shared experience, and every bit of love you’ve given to our boy.”It’s an incredibly tragic outcome, one that should prompt all universities to revisit policies applicable to the performance and attire of members of the marching band on oppressively hot days.
