Mega new Home Bargains store spanning 29,000 sq ft opens TODAY in historic English town – and will replace old Homebase

A MEGA new Home Bargains store has swung its doors open today, replacing an old Homebase. The beloved bargain store is now officially open to customers at the Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead. The retailer has opened to customers today, August 1 Credit: Alamy Stock Photo Doors opened today, Saturday, August 1, at 8:30am with shoppers having until 5:30pm to hunt for discounts. Before its launch the only branches of Home Bargains in Gateshead were relatively small ones in the high street. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! But this mega 29,000 sq ft store includes a GardenWorld as well as a cafe. It replaces an old Homebase and breathes life into a retail unit which has lain empty since last year. Happy locals have previously described the move as “another boost for local shopping”. Home Bargains will join other well known retailers like Smyths Toys, TK Maxx, M&S Simply Food, Asda Living and Dunelm at Retail World. Back in May, the value store opened over a massive unit in St Albans’ Alban Park and spans an enormous 29,418 square feet.
