Medina County Fair brings week of star-spangled fun

Community NewsThe Medina County Fair will be Aug. 3-9 at the Medina County Fairgrounds.Emily Canning-Dean, Special to Cleveland.comBy Emily Canning-Dean, special to cleveland.comMEDINA, Ohio – Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights is the theme of this year’s Medina County Fair and organizers say the festivities will include something for everyone. “We are integrating the America 250 theme into a lot of our displays and activities this year,” said Pam Oberholtzer, fair director. “Thursday will be ‘patriotic day’ and we are encouraging everyone to wear red, white and blue and we will also be putting on a scavenger hunt that day.” This year’s 181st fair will be Aug. 3-9 at the Medina County Fairgrounds, 720 W. Smith Road. “We have several new things this year including a free show called ‘Wheels of Agriculture’ which is a type of game show, and we will also have a trivia tractor strolling through the fairground asking people agricultural questions and then giving away some little prizes,” Oberholtzer said. “Sunday night will be our Motor Mania show featuring monster trucks. Sky Circus from Cleveland will be in the pavilion Tuesday and Wednesday doing free shows. We have a brand-new big rocking chair for people to take photos in.” Oberholtzer said a wide variety of musical acts will entertain visitors throughout the festival including popular Cleveland-based band Country Redford. The band will offer a free performance Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the pavilion. Other acts include Warren Zeiders and also The Diamond Project, a popular Neil Diamond cover band. Oberholtzer said visitors can go to www.medinaohiofair.com to purchase grandstand tickets, find a schedule of events and download a Medina County Fair app. “We just started the app last year,” she said. “People can download the app on their phone, and they will have all the information about events and can purchase tickets. It’s a one-stop shop. This year also includes an interactive map so there are directions from anywhere to the fairground.”
