Mckenna Grace, who plays District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” has been dressing like the franchise’s most devoted fan in the lead-up to the film’s Nov. 20 release. Working with stylist Molly Dickson, the 20-year-old has hit Paris, Sydney, New York and London in looks that wink at Katniss Everdeen, past cast members and motifs from the series. “Everything is a reference lately,” Grace told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month. “It’s just homage to all the people that were a part of this franchise before I was.” Here’s how she’s paid tribute so far. Oct. 28 Getty Images Lionsgate Grace brought the arena to the red carpet at the London premiere in an intricately beaded Almée Couture gown depicting a pastoral scene, with 3D flowers blooming across the skirt. Beaded earrings and purple eye shadow pulled the look together. “I’m just missing a cornucopia in here somewhere,” she joked to Entertainment Tonight. Oct. 28 Mattpapz / BACKGRID Lionsgate For interviews, she and Dickson pulled an archival Gucci gown from fall/winter 2016 with a tiered skirt of green, flamingo pink and magenta ruffles, finished with silver platform sandals. The rainbow ruffles call back to Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird in 2023’s “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” Oct. 26 GC Images Lionsgate On the “Today” show, Grace appeared in an aqua Betsey Johnson minidress, a grown-up version of the puff-sleeve number Amandla Stenberg wore as Rue in 2012’s “The Hunger Games.” She copied the costume down to the twin butterfly clips in her hair. Oct. 18 Variety via Getty Images Butterflies returned at the Newport Beach Film Festival Honors and Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch event, this time as delicate silk appliqués on a tea-length strapless Nicole + Felicia dress. The motif nods to a scene in “Sunrise on the Reaping.” Oct. 17 Getty Images Getty Images For the Academy Museum Gala, which was not a “Hunger Games”-specific event, Grace channeled Jennifer Lawrence’s real-life wardrobe. She paid homage to the star’s memorable red Calvin Klein gown from the 2011 Oscars in a Mônot halter dress with a plunging neckline. Oct. 14 WireImage She posed Down Under in a ballet pink, gathered one-shoulder House of Gilles gown with a matching bow and floral hairpiece. A side braid wove in a subtle Katniss reference. Oct. 6 Getty Images for Lionsgate ©Lions Gate/Courtesy Everett Collection Grace kicked off the tour at the Musée Rodin opening of Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style, and Power of Panem, a costume exhibition. Her white strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, with an ornate crystal structure floating up off the dress, is modeled on Katniss Everdeen’s “Catching Fire” wedding dress.
