Maya Jama admits she sneakily broke big Celebrity Traitors rule

| Senior TV Reporter Published November 6, 2026 9:55am Updated November 6, 2026 9:55am Maya Jama was one of the original Traitors on this season (Picture: BBC/Studio Lambert/Euan Cherry) Maya Jama has said she and Joanne McNally broke one of the various off-screen rules in the castle on Celebrity Traitors. The Love Island host penned a sweet message about her friendship with the comedian, who she grew close to during their stint in Ardross Castle, despite being on different teams. Jama was chosen as one of Claudia Winkleman’s original Traitors, while McNally played a haphazard game as a Faithful, which eventually got her banished. When the comedian was sent home after a split roundtable vote with Sharon Rooney, Jama teared up during her friend’s exit speech. Jama has since shared a montage of ‘emotional’ clips of the pair on the show to her Instagram, and admitted that they were a bit cheeky together behind the scenes. ‘I love you my ball of fun,’ she wrote. ‘Most of our time together wasn’t included because we spoke about everything other than the game and hid in the toilets telling secrets. Cling cling,’ she said, tagging McNally’s social media account. It is understood that the stars are not permitted to go to the toilet together, and fellow 2026 contestant Joe Lycett has referenced being chaperoned on trips to the loo. The comedian was on BBC Radio 1 when he produced a diary he kept during his Scottish stint and read out an excerpt in which he joked he ‘can’t p***’ because of the presence of said chaperones. He added: ‘There were people in the toilet all the time in case you went in the loo and then shouted something out of the door to somebody and they couldn’t use it in the show. ‘I don’t know about you, but if I’ve had a [curry] I do not want a TV producer stood outside that loo!’ Joe Lycett has detailed having a show chaperone accompany him to the toilets (Picture: BBC/Studio Lambert/Euan Cherry) Jama’s furtive trips to the toilet clearly didn’t help her go all the way, as the Traitor was banished at the final roundtable on the show, when her fellow turret-dweller King Kenny rolled over on her. The 32-year-old was ousted when Kenny decided to vote for her banishment, rather than to tie the poll with Romesh Ranganathan, who ultimately went on to win the game alongside Sebastian Croft. Speaking about the demise of the turret – after they had seemed so impenetrable going into the final week – Jama said: ‘I don’t know how it crashed down so quickly. ‘I feel like the game of James [Acaster] not wanting to lie, me just trying to keep the vibes happy and Kenny playing as a Faithful couldn’t have lasted till the final. It was impossible. ‘I think maybe if I was a bit more savage, things could have gone a different way.’ Metro contacted the BBC for comment on this story.
