Matthew Rhys Touts ‘Beast In Me’ Team That Helped Him Land Best Actor In Limited Series Emmy

After earning two Emmy nominations this year, Matthew Rhys is potentially in line for a double win after he took home the Emmy for best actor in a limited series Monday for Netflix’s The Beast in Me. He gave all the credit to the creators and Emmy-nominated co-star for getting him this win. “This is a real shock,” said a stunned Rhys onstage. “We had a beautiful holy trinity of scribes, in the glorious form of Daniel Pearl, Gabe Rotter and Howard Gordon, who really brought out the beast in all of us.” Rhys also gave a shout-out to director Antonio Campos and exited the stage giving a final nod to his fellow nominee and co-star Claire Danes, who he described as leading in a “ferociously, fearlessly and fervently way.” Rhys in the category beat out Jason Bateman in Black Rabbit, Oscar Isaac in Beef, Charlie Hunnam in Monster: The Ed Gein Story and Riz Ahmed in Bait. It marked Rhys’ second Emmy win in his career after taking home the lead actor award in a drama series for his work in FX’s The Americans. Watch on Deadline Rhys also joined rare company when he earned an acting nomination for not only this show but for his hit Apple series Widow’s Bay. This marked the first win of the night for the show which had been nominated for nine Emmy Awards.
