Matt Dinniman Approved LitRPG Series Gets New Release Next Month

Published Oct 30, 2026, 4:08 PM EDT Amanda Kay Oaks is a writer and lifelong book nerd. She has been writing about books on the internet for over 10 years, with prior bylines at Book Riot and ComicBook.com. Though she reads across most genres, Amanda Kay is particularly fond of romance, cozy fantasy, and books with strong female characters. The LitRPG genre has been around for quite some time, but there's no denying that Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman has brought it to the forefront of readers' minds. Naturally, that means many newcomers to the genre are eager for recommendations about what to read next. We've got a while to wait for Dungeon Crawler Carl book 9, after all, and something needs to fill that gap. Thankfully, Dinniman himself has put a stamp of approval on one long-running LitRPG series that recently made its traditionally published debut. In fact, the Dungeon Crawler Carl author's blurb on the first book in the series says, "You won't find anything else like it." That's pretty high praise from an author who has, in many ways, become the public face of the LitRPG genre. The book series in question is The Wandering Inn. Like many LitRPGs, it got its start as a serialized web novel. In fact, the web series is still ongoing, with a new installment planned for Halloween. But for those who prefer to hold a physical book in their hands, The Wandering Inn is also getting the traditional publishing treatment from Harper Voyager. The first three installments in the series are out now, with book 2, part 2 headed our way on November 10th. The Wandering Inn is a high fantasy LitRPG perfect for Dungeons & Dragons fans searching for another read while we wait for more of Carl and Donut's adventures. While the DCC series has a bit more of a blend of sci-fi and fantasy mechanics, Pirateaba's epic fantasy world really leans into the swords and sorcery of it all. Our main character, Erin, is a normal human woman who finds herself suddenly transported to a fantasy world. Upon arrival, she almost gets eaten by an actual dragon. Erin is no adventurer, and she's certainly not ready to fight monsters. But somehow, she has to learn how to survive as an innkeeper in a dangerous fantasy realm. The first book, The Wandering Inn: Book One, Part One released earlier this year. Since then, readers have been able to get their hands on two more installments: No Killing Goblins and the recently released Fae and Fare. Naturally, there was no better author to provide a blurb for a newly traditionally published LitRPG than Matt Dinniman. The first book bears a pretty lengthy comment from the author right on the front cover. In his blurb, Dinniman praises The Wandering Inn author Pirateaba's world-building prowess, going on to call the book, "a favorite." Along with providing a blurb for the physical release of The Wandering Inn, Dinniman has also praised the book on social media. Specifically, he commends Andrea Parsneau's audio performance for the series. Given how much Jeff Hays' rendition of Dungeon Crawler Carl has influenced that franchise's popularity, a stamp of approval on the audio for The Wandering Inn is a pretty big deal. For those who prefer LitRPGs on audio, it seems like this is another great option for your next road trip or commute. Lest you fear jumping into another unfinished LitRPG series while we wait for more Dungeon Crawler Carl, these books have been released at a pretty fast clip. Given that the web series has been running for 10 years, there's plenty of material to pull from. The next book, The Wandering Inn: Immortal Games, is set to release on November 10th. That gives LitRPG fans four published books to enjoy in print or on audio, with more installments almost certainly soon to follow. You can purchase The Wandering Inn here.
