Match suspended as player collapses and is stretchered off field before being rushed to hospital in worrying scenes

PISA star Rosen Bozhinov was rushed to hospital after collapsing on the pitch during a Serie B clash with Juve Stabia. The worrying incident happened around the 40th minute of Sunday’s away game at the Stadio Romeo Menti in Castellammare di Stabia. Bozhinov was treated on the football pitch before being carried away on a stretcher and transferred to an ambulance. The match, which was goalless at the time, was then temporarily suspended as both teams returned to their dressing rooms. Referee Andrea Calzavara had spoken with the captains and benches before making the decision to halt proceedings. Pisa, who were relegated from Serie A last season, later confirmed Bozhinov had been taken to hospital for further checks but was conscious. The club said one possible cause of the incident was severe dehydration, with further updates expected. Reports in Italy later claimed the dehydration had caused Bozhinov to suffer convulsions, while sources from Serie B said he remained conscious.
