Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.A popular superhero horror series takes the next step towards becoming a major franchise next year. Comics are far more versatile than their association with caped crusaders and superpowered clashes might suggest. The comic book medium can accommodate practically any genre, from comedy to slice-of-life to horror to historical fiction and psychological drama. Horror comics, in particular, have produced stories that can't be fully replicated in other mediums. Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is a gem of the genre due to its body horror and supernatural mythology, and the manga Uzumaki is a mind-bending visual experience that no horror fan should miss. The past couple of years, IDW Publishing has expanded its horror output through its IDW Dark imprint, with titles such as the unsettling serial killer comic Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees and the supernatural suspense The Exorcism at 1600 Penn. IDW is also adapting movie franchises to the comic book medium with titles like Smile: For the Camera and A Quiet Place: Storm Warning. IDW's horror schedule is filled with exciting releases, including the publisher's partnership with Blumhouse to produce comics based on the horror properties The Purge, M3GAN, and Happy Death Day. However, other phenomena of the genre not connected to Hollywood are also making a return. Worm Debuts Its First Official Physical Comic Release Worm; Written By Meghan Fitzmartin; Art By Javier Ortiz & David Vaquero; Letters By Andriy Lukin IDW Publishing officially announces that John McCrae’s Worm, one of the most popular superhero stories ever published online, is making the leap from web serial to physical comics. Worm built an enormous readership from 2011 to 2013 with more than one million views per month at its height, eventually accumulating an astonishing 80 million views. Now, IDW Publishing is bringing McCrae’s creation to printed comics for the first time. McCrae will consult on the ongoing adaptation, which features writer Meghan Fitzmartin, artist Javier Ortiz, colorist David Vaquero, and letterer Andriy Lukin. Worm follows Taylor, a bullied teenager who develops the ability to control insects. After enduring a particularly brutal episode of harassment, she sees her newfound power as an opportunity to fight back and prove that she can become something more than the victim everyone assumes she is. However, entering the world of superheroes quickly complicates that ambition, as her surroundings are populated by violent gangs with superpowers and serial killers and her fellow costumed heroes have unwritten rules that make distinguishing right from wrong increasingly difficult. Worm is available from IDW Entertainment July 2027, with a preview on Free Comic Book Day, May 1st.
