Massive blaze engulfs house and car in London as 70 firefighters scrambled – and locals urged to keep windows shut

FIREFIGHTERS are battling a huge house blaze after flames ripped through a two-storey semi-detached home. Station Commander Steve McGhie said the fire was producing smoke which had affected the surrounding area. He said: “The fire is producing smoke that’s affected the local area, residents nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed where possible. “One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders is being deployed as a water tower, allowing crews to tackle the flames from above.” The Brigade said its 999 Control officers received the first of 24 calls alerting them to the fire at 9.36pm. Crews were sent from Surbiton, Kingston, Sutton, Wimbledon and surrounding fire stations. Firefighters remain at the scene as they battle to bring the blaze under control.
