Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja Shares New Life Support Soundtrack

Massive Attack's music has felt cinematic from its very beginnings, and it has appeared in god only knows how many movies and TV shows over the decades. Now, group member Robert "3D" Del Naja — who is not Banksy, it turns out — has shared the soundtrack for Life Support, a new documentary about a team of medics attempting to operate under the nightmarish conditions in Gaza.Robert Del Naja has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian people during the current genocide. Just last month, British police arrested him (for the second time) for holding a sign in support of Palestine Action, the protest group that the UK government has proscribed as a terrorist organization. So Del Naja's work on this documentary obviously aligns with his values. Del Naja and Palestinian composer Habib Shehada Hanna contributed original music to the film, and Del Naja also worked with its producers to select songs for the soundtrack, which features artists like Kneecap, Yasmine Hamdan, and 47Soul. It's also got a track from the Five Techniques, the new project from Belfast producer David Holmes, that features Paul Weller and Róisín El Cherif. In a press release, Dej Naja says:Given the magnitude and rawness of Life Support, it was humbling to be asked to compose work that could in some way enhance a second-hand experience of living the devastating realities for volunteer medics and Gazan civilians. We hope the range of compositions go some way to travelling the emotional quagmire — but also elevating the astounding human spirit and resilience displayed by the subjects of this film. The soundtrack album is out now on [PIAS], with all proceeds going to benefit the Health Workers 4 Palestine solidarity fund.
