Sign in to your TheGamer account Amid all the bad news surrounding the closure of BioWare and the end of Mass Effect, there might be a silver lining. As far as we know, work on the Mass Effect TV show at Amazon continues, and a newly discovered detail confirms that, for now at least, the studio plans to have the show run for at least two seasons. Multiple Seasons Of Mass Effect That’s according to a writer profile discovered by Twitter account We Are Mass Effect. Turns out Greg Rucka, a writer best known for their work on The Old Guard and multiple DC projects, is attached to the Mass Effect adaptation. Not just attached, but they are signed on for its first two seasons. That’s according to Rucka’s Writer’s Guild page. Under the TV employment history section, Rucka is listed as a co-executive producer on the show, with the season count listed as two. This is the first time we have had anything close to confirmation that Amazon already has plans for multiple seasons of the adaptation, and it comes days after the games on which the show will be based were killed by EA. Rucka Is A Big Mass Effect Fan Turns out Rucka might be the kind of person Mass Effect fans want on a project like this, as even though he has never worked on the series before, he’s a very big fan. In 2010, the writer penned an in-depth review of Mass Effect 2, praising the sequel. A few years later, they joked that they would kill to work on a Mass Effect project (via Kotaku). Here’s hoping that didn’t have to happen to get them on the team working on Amazon’s adaptation. Mass Effect fans naturally continue to wonder what the fate of the TV show will be. It seems odd that this show might still happen when the studio behind the series no longer exists. In the hours after BioWare’s closure, however, it was confirmed that, for now at least, the Mass Effect adaptation is still happening. Many assume that the driving force behind this recent boom of turning games into movies and shows is to drive new players back to the games, but if this Mass Effect adaptation happens, it will be definitive evidence that’s not the case. They are simply a way for studios to make more money out of their IP. A lot more, as movies and TV shows are typically cheaper to make than games, and the turnaround time is a lot faster. That’s why there doesn’t need to be a new Fallout game to coincide with the Fallout show. It’s its own, very popular thing, and just another revenue stream for Bethesda and Amazon.
