Masashi Kishimoto Is Officially Returning For New Naruto Manga

Published Oct 11, 2026, 12:46 PM EDT An experienced Editor representing Canada via ScreenRant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com. His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023. Sign in to your ScreenRant account Nearly 12 years after the final chapter of Naruto released, fans perhaps felt there was no hope left of a proper sequel manga depicting Naruto Uzumaki and his friends entering young adulthood, parenthood, and moving up in their lives. It felt like the closest thing to this would be the Boruto sequel manga, but thanks to a stunning announcement trailer at New York Comic Con 2026 to close out the Naruto franchise panel, it turns out the franchise has enough bandwidth to do both. While Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues its story, Masashi Kishimoto has been confirmed to be working on a new Naruto manga, revealed onstage and streamed online for the world to see. Nothing is known yet about a release timeline beyond 2027 at the earliest. The manga clearly appears to depict the Konoha crew and, presumably, the rest of the ninja world following the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, in an era that's been desperately requested by fans for years. Showing scenes of the Hokage Rock with Kakashi Hatake's face and construction beginning on carving out Naruto's place there, it appears to be in the early transitional era as Naruto assumes the Hokage role, shown even donning the signature hat. The work also shows primary characters like Kakashi, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno holding baby Sarada, signifying a bright future ahead. Naruto's New Manga Unveils Stunning In-Progress Glimpse Revealed as the "best-for-last" teaser to end the "NARUTO: What's Next?" panel, this was the perfect way to commemorate Naruto Uzumaki's birthday, October 10, complete with a performer wearing a full Naruto costume opening the scroll to reveal the project. The series, titled Naruto Shadow Rising, was confirmed to be a project by Masashi Kishimoto, showing hints at future clashes between Naruto and Sasuke. Their gorgeous character designs are a welcome sight for fans worldwide, as opposed to all of them being sidelined in recent Boruto manga chapters, beyond Sakura's recent chapters appearing as a supporting character. Naruto Shadow Rising doesn't appear to have a release date set, but is promising big things at Jump Festa 2027's Naruto Jump Super Stage, with announcements coming across December 19-20, 2026. The series hasn't confirmed whether it'll appear in Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump+, or other shonen publications like Jump SQ., V Jump, or Saikyō Jump, but beyond a massive, highly unlikely surprise like going seinen, it's mostly a matter of whether the new Naruto manga will be weekly, monthly, or quarterly like in Jump GIGA. The new Naruto manga glimpses are preliminary, unfinished looks, giving an exciting glimpse of Kishimoto's sketch before finalizing the linework, with Jump Festa likely to feature the project in greater visual detail. For now though, it's a delight just to hear about more Naruto manga from the creator himself, and it's a vindicating moment for fans who've held out hope for all these years. Naruto Shadow Rising Is The Sequel Manga Everyone Always Wanted While Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has certainly tightened its own narrative to make for an engaging experience, plenty of Naruto fans never felt ready to let go of their favorite characters who'd fade into the background for the next generation. Now, with Naruto Shadow Rising, fans will see the period of Team 7 and Konoha in their happily married phases, starting families while gradually taking leadership positions of their own. Given the presence of Sakura cradling who appears to be baby Sarada, it's fair to suspect that these characters will have designs strongly reminiscent of The Last: Naruto the Movie, beyond Sasuke's radical original look from the film.
