Marvel’s Wolverine Game Officially Using The Best Version Of Sentinels

Published Sep 7, 2026, 1:00 PM EDT Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot. Marvel’s Wolverine launches in a week, and it’ll be neat to see what surprises it may have in store. As per Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac has a knack for third acts that bait-and-switch who its stories’ main villain is, nudging a new one into view while the other, who’d been developed for the first two-thirds, is hastily whisked away or abruptly killed (R.I.P. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Kraven). Troy Baker playing Nathaniel Essex guarantees that Mister Sinister will eventually become a significant villain, for instance. However, at least for the moment, Bolivar Trask is poised to be the main antagonist in Marvel’s Wolverine. It’s anyone’s guess whether Mister Sinister will usurp him three-quarters of the way into the game, but a new enemy faction reveal suggests that Trask will be the biggest thorn in Wolverine’s side, much less all of mutantkind that is in hiding and struggling to survive. Marvel’s Wolverine Features Sentinels Of All Sizes It was previously revealed that Wolverine will fight a Sentinel Prototype boss (the stationary, unfinished upper body of a giant Sentinel), with the potential for a full-fledged Sentinel boss later on. But, instead of being a spectacular set piece or a gimmick, Sentinels will also be featured as a proper enemy faction with units players fight during ordinary gameplay. The way Marvel’s Wolverine is achieving this is by having Sentinel enemy types that are roughly the same size as a person. Enemy factions in superhero games demand that they rationalize having an infinite number of reinforcements in order for there to be endless reserves of enemies to fight, and that wouldn’t be possible if Sentinels were all massive. Of course, these artificially intelligent mutant-hunting robots have always come in all shapes and sizes in Marvel Comics lore. When they’re no less powerful, people-sized Sentinels can be even more terrifying than their gargantuan counterparts, as they’re able to sneak or ambush far more easily. Marvel’s Wolverine’s enemy factions now officially include Trask soldiers (maybe only in Marvel’s Wolverine’s Team X prologue in Telambang, with cybernetic Reavers being their upgrade later on), Reavers, the Hand, and Sentinels. Besides red-clad Hand ninjas, it’s of note that a large portion of the game’s enemies will be composed of metal. This is actually a beautiful foil for a protagonist like Wolverine, who is also coated in metal, which players will get to witness whenever they suffer enough damage and see his glimmering chrome skeleton. It would probably be appropriate for Sentinels to appear as a late-game enemy faction because, once they do arrive, Reavers might not pose nearly as much of a threat as Sentinels. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Wolverine’s Hand should hopefully be a wonderful respite from bionic and mechanical foes. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see anti-adamantium Sentinels appear as a particularly irritating enemy type throughout the game, and yet that would probably diminish Marvel’s Wolverine’s literal hack’n-slash gameplay. Not being able to rend enemies with the razor-thin blades that pop from Wolverine’s hands would be highly unsatisfying—strip the adamantium from Logan’s bones, though, and gameplay could suddenly become quite interesting in Marvel’s Wolverine. Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to be released for PS5 on September 15, 2026.
