However, some characters are clearly stronger than others, whether it's from the diversity of their special skills or their distinct mechanics that are different from everyone else. Although future balance patches and updates could shift the strength of each fighter, some stand out within the 4v4 fighting game. As of this time of writing, there are 21 different characters in Marvel Tōkon who each adhere to the game's mechanics, such as the grounded four-hit combo limit. That being said, every character has three different assist types that affect how impactful they are on any player's team. Some fighters can be weak as the "leader" out on the battlefield, but have useful assists to bring up their overall strength. Current Character Tier List For Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls See Where We Believe Every Fighter Ranks In Terms Of Overall Strength The launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has already seen some characters grow stronger from where they were in the closed and open betas for the game, making it hard to determine who is better than whom. Yet, there are some fighters who are already proving their dominance, appearing on a variety of teams often. The best characters tend to be the most consistent, or the ones who approach battles with better tools than others. Keep in mind that this Tier List is an opinion, and is not a definitive statement on the overall balance of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, rather existing as an interpretation of it. Like most lists of this type, the best characters are placed in S-Tier, while the weakest are in C-Tier or lower, but don't expect each of these Tiers to be organized by individual characters. Our Tier List for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls looks something like this: S-Tier: Blade, Magik, Black Panther, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man A-Tier: Carnage, Wolverine, Storm, Deadpool, Loki, Iron Man, Storm B-Tier: Green Goblin, Danger, Ghost Rider, Star-Lord, Captain America C-Tier: The Champion, Ms. Marvel, Peni Parker, Hulk There are some characters not in this Tier List yet, such as Phoenix Cyclops, the first DLC fighter announced for the game. This list goes over the characters available in the launch version of the game who you can play in every mode. This includes the secret boss character The Champion, who can unlock in the Episode story mode of Marvel Tōkon. Every S-Tier Ranked Character Explained Well-Rounded Fighters With Multiple Options On Any Team Black Panther might be the best character in the game, both as a leader of your team and as a reliable assist on any squad. Black Panther's abilities give her excellent range and tricky mix-ups, even if players have to take time to charge her Bast's Blessing resource. However, once you have Bast's Blessing, Black Panther's spear attacks and special moves become extremely potent with longer range than most characters. Another reason why Black Panther is so good is that she has one of the best Assault assists in Marvel Tōkon. The projectiles and attacks from all Black Panther's assists are great at interrupting opponents and turning the tide back in your team's favor. Magik and Blade are arguably right behind Black Panther due to the similar range advantage their swords offer. Blade has excellent projectiles too, with his multi-hitting glaive and Heartstopper attacks helping him stay mobile and keep up dangerous offense. On the other hand, Magik can place her Dark Portals around the battlefield to enhance her special moves, teleport, and otherwise harass her rivals with relentless pressure. Doctor Doom is a great, well-rounded character as well, with great normal attacks that come out fast and have a wide reach. With his Nullify Shield, Doctor Doom can shut down enemy projectiles too, establishing his defense with one button. In contrast, Spider-Man sacrifices long-reaching attacks for a great Spidey sense counter and endless mobility, using web swings to zip at opponents and confuse them with an unorthodox approach. Every A-Tier Ranked Character Explained Multiple Characters With Few Weaknesses In Their Skills All the characters in A-Tier can contend with those in S-Tier, but they have one or two weaknesses that prevent them from taking that top spot. For example, Storm's manipulation of the weather gives her excellent screen control, but her damage is somewhat lacking compared to other fighters. Other fighters like Deadpool and Loki could easily jump into the S-Tier as the game develops, but for now, the complexity of those characters compared to others leaves much of their tool kits unexplored. Deadpool's ability to remove his own health to unlock fourth-wall moves can be a detriment to players who don't know when and where to take that risk, and the same can be said of Loki's illusory skills. At the same time, there are other characters who just don't have an X-factor of mobility, aggressiveness, or strong defensive tools to be in S-Tier, despite being well-rounded in every other regard. Carnage is an incredibly well-rounded character in Marvel Tōkon, but relies too heavily on spacing his attacks at maximum distance and applying his Necrosis debuff to be placed within S-Tier. Iron Man certainly fits that description, as the character has stylish ways to enter and leave free flight alongside large beam projectiles. Unfortunately, Iron Man tends to struggle in other areas, lacking defensive options that don't cost anything. The same can be said of Wolverine, whose variety of mix-up options out of his unique strikes don't come with great assists or ways to prevent rival fighters from locking him into tough situations. Every B-Tier Ranked Character Explained The B-Tier consists of characters who are far too "honest" in their gameplay style, or have clearly defined weaknesses that can be easier to exploit. The biggest examples of this are Green Goblin and Ghost Rider, who each have unique resource mechanics tied to a feast or famine play style. Green Goblin's best tool is his glider, which allows him to perform tricky mix-ups from above, but the moment he runs out of the meter tied to it, he is left vulnerable to enemy offense. Danger's weaknesses lie mostly in her mobility, as she can only dash forward by hovering into the air at an awkward angle. Often at a slow pace too, this offsets Danger's variety of good projectiles, preventing her from launching a strong offensive against opponents. Meanwhile, Ghost Rider has a Vengeance meter he can charge by performing specific special moves, building up his resource into Levels 1, 2, and 3. At Level 3 of Vengeance, Ghost Rider is a force to be reckoned with, with his moves gaining new properties. That being said, going beyond Level 3 will Overheat Ghost Rider, leaving him exposed to enemy combos if the player doesn't properly manage his meter. Captain America and Star-Lord have the opposite problem, though, as each character simply doesn't have as many ways to open up their rivals. Captain America can knock his shield into different positions, but without projectiles as good as Iron Man's or Black Panther's, his approach is simply an inferior option. At the same time, Star-Lord can switch up his elemental blaster for big combos, but he has few ways mixing up opponents to establish that strength. Every C-Tier Ranked Character Explained Weakest Fighters Who Could Become Better Over Time The Champion is the one secret in Marvel Tōkon that may not be worth it in the long run, as the character has several weaknesses. For starters, The Champion cannot call for assists when being played, having to charge his Pride Meter first before he gains assistance from his own spiritual aura. Along with a big body that makes him easier to hit, The Champion simply doesn't have the same advantages as everyone else who work together. Similarly, The Hulk is a potentially strong character due to his armored attacks, but hindered due to slow attack speed, lack of mix-up options, and the inability to dash while in the air. Other characters, like Ms. Marvel and Peni Parker, suffer due to a lack of projectiles or very unorthodox ones, with Peni in particular having to rely on random drones that have a chance at hurting her too. Ms. Marvel can excel early in matches, yet often struggles once more assists are unlocked. In spite of all of this, the Assault assists for Hulk and Peni Parker are quite strong in the right hands, especially with players who don't want to switch characters. Every fighter in the game has some merits, creating a largely balanced roster at launch, far more than most fighting games. To its credit, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will likely buff and nerf characters over time, hopefully elevating C-Tier characters as time goes on.
