The X-Men are going to play a major role in the MCU moving forward, and fans had been asking for that for years. When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, the prospect of the mutants finally joining the MCU's slate of projects was on everyone's minds. Since then, we got Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU's first R-Rated movie and currently the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, as Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman led it to over $1.3 billion. The fans yearn for the X-Men. That is why the MCU's upcoming movies, which include Avengers: Doomsday, the film that will bring back many of the actors' from Fox's original X-Men timeline, and the MCU X-Men movie, which will reboot the team for Marvel Studios' shared universe, are so exciting. Sadie Sink was finally confirmed as the MCU's Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where she was initially the villain Tom Holland's Peter Parker had to stop, before Spider-Man got her to change. Speaking about mutant villains, the X-Men cast was just announced at D23, where ScreenRant was in attendance, and the film's main foe could not be more perfect. Adam Driver Is Perfect For Mister Sinister In Marvel's X-Men Movie At D23, Marvel confirmed most of the cast of the MCU X-Men movie, which featured some surprises. The film will star Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. That last one is especially interesting, as Driver is well known for having played another major villain in a Disney franchise recently. After all, the actor gave life to Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo, in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. That chapter of the sci-fi franchise concluded in 2019. The MCU X-Men movie will be released in theaters on May 5, 2028. While Driver's announcement video came with a joke about him playing Magneto, only for it to switch to Nathaniel Milbury, aka Mister Sinister, I'm actually glad that Marvel chose to go with the actor for the latter, rather than the more popular X-Men character. For one, Magneto has been a constant presence in the X-Men movies and animated shows, whereas Mister Sinister never clawed his way into live-action. Additionally, not only does Driver look great for Mister Sinister, but he has the skills to play a villain who alternates between being cold and calculated and extremely performative, almost theatrical. Adam Driver's MCU X-Men Casting Makes Up For His Scrapped Star Wars Movie Driver joining the MCU X-Men movie cast as Mister Sinister is also perfect due to a recent development in the Star Wars franchise. While Kylo Ren died in 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the actor not only wanted to come back as the character, but had an idea that he pushed for at Lucasfilm. On October 20, 2025, Driver revealed to The Associated Press that he believed Kylo Ren's redemption arc felt incomplete to him, so he wanted to explore that in a new Star Wars movie set after The Rise of Skywalker — The Hunt for Ben Solo. Despite getting director Steven Soderbergh onboard and everyone at Lucasfilm to support the idea, Disney's then CEO, Bob Iger, and the Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman, nixed the idea because they felt like Ben Solo coming back from the dead did not make sense within the Star Wars franchise. Well, now Driver will get to play another major villain in a similarly giant franchise within the Disney umbrella. Additionally, Mister Sinister has not been done before in live-action, so the X-Men movie role allows the actor to shine and rebound from his scrapped Star Wars return in the perfect way.
