Marvel Reveals Spider-Man, Daredevil, And Punisher Redesigns, And They're Epic

Sign in to your ScreenRant account Marvel has just unveiled new designs for Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Punisher, and the entire Marvel universe, and they’re nothing short of epic. One of the most honored traditions in Marvel and DC is to tell new stories set in alternate universes to the original; not only does that allow writers and artists the freedom to work on self-contained stories free from the restrictions of the main continuity, but it also gives fans something easy to jump into, and that’s led to those alternate universe stories being among some of the best in the medium. Another major benefit of alternate universe stories is that they sometimes allow for new designs on classic characters; sometimes it will be something incredibly basic and cosmetic, but other times, it will be something radically different from what people are familiar with, and in either case, it almost always leads to something great for old and new fans alike. That’s the case once more with Marvel’s latest announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, as they’ve unveiled brand-new designs for their biggest heroes in a new take on the Marvel universe, and each one is absolutely peak. Marvel’s New Manga Universe Needs To Be Seen To Be Believed As announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Marvel is teaming up with legendary manga publishing house Kadokawa to produce a new line of manga remakes of the Marvel universe, with the first two stories in the line starring Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen, respectively. This follows the recent announcement that C.B. Cebulski would be exiting his role as editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics after almost a decade to become the Asia Originals Editor for Marvel Comics in Tokyo, and what little has been shown of that is great to behold. The first story, Spider-Man in Shibuya, will be written by Tokitokoro, who previously wrote comics for Doctor Strange, Marvel Rivals, and Jeff the Land Shark. Their version of Spider-Man has a very classic anime protagonist outside of the costume, and as Spider-Man, having blue take priority over red is an interesting change of pace, with the exact execution of it all making it very reminiscent of tokusatsu. Daredevil’s costume also now has a demonic oni mask, and Punisher has a classic yakuza look with a flaming skull on his jacket, all of which perfectly capture the Japanese aesthetic. There’s less to be said about the Spider-Gwen manga, but it still looks impressive. The manga will be written by Ryusei Yamada, best known for the manga adaptation of Crunchyroll’s Revenger, and while the Spider-Gwen costume is very by the numbers, Gwen is given some very fun-looking outfits outside of the costume. Not only that, but the specific way her hair is styled feels somewhat reminiscent of Rei Ayanami of Neon Genesis Evangelion; whether that means anything is unclear, but hopefully, more information will be revealed soon. Marvel’s New Push Into Manga Is Nothing But Amazing Marvel’s upcoming manga remake looks amazing, and it highlights how great their recent push into the medium has been. Last month, it was announced that Marvel was reviving the Marvel Mangaverse with stories that actually tried to pay tribute to anime and manga, and now that they’re going so far as to make new manga, it’s clear that they’re serious about making anime and manga part of their brand. Much of that is likely practical because of manga’s mainstream appeal, but with how much overlap manga and comics have, it doesn’t make it any less great to see. There still isn’t much known about these new takes on Spider-Man and other classic Marvel characters, but if the stories are even half as good as the designs, then they’re something comic and manga fans alike should be looking forward to.
