Marvel just debuted a new, devil-horned Hulk, stripping Bruce Banner's gamma powers and handing them to a shocking new recipient. It's all building to the introduction of the monstrous new Ivory Hulk, but before that, Bruce will have to contend with his direct successor. In the ongoing Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone, Bruce Banner has been seeking an exorcism to rid himself of the Hulk. He's discovered the secret history of his powers, with Peter Parker's Wall-Crawler along for the ride. However, as the exorcism itself is carried out, the unthinkable happens, and a new Hulk enters Marvel lore... A New Hell Hulk Is Born Today In today's Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone #3 - from Kevin Smith, Andy McElfresh, R. B. Silva, Federico Blee and Joe Sabino - the Hulk's exorcism is carried out by Cardinal Leviticus Thornhill. After a key-like artifact known as "the Cross of Corpus Christi" is turned in a mystic cage, Hulk and Banner are seemingly split apart, with a third player - nicknamed the Hell Hulk or "Hellk" - also emerging. The demonic beast clashes with the original Hulk, with both disappearing in a flash of light when their fists touch, along with Thornhill and the Cross. Spider-Man discovers a depowered Bruce Banner, suggesting that whatever happened to the Hulk, the process was a success for his other half. Who Is The New Hell Hulk? Thanks to the chaos of Bruce's exorcism, the identity of the new Hell Hulk isn't known. It could be a transformed Cardinal Thornhill, or else a previously unknown aspect of Bruce's powers. During the exorcism, Mephisto makes his entrance, attacking and killing the bishops who are helping Thornhill. The devil claims that every version of the Hulk has acted as a cage for Armageddon, and that exorcising Bruce Banner will "unmake existence as you know it." It's possible the Devil Hulk embodies this aspect of the Hulk's powers - a living apocalypse. Finally, it's possible this Hulk is Lahkor the Devourer of Light - an 'Old Testament' Hulk who gained powers after being irradiated by a meteor, roaming Earth for thousands of years before the Catholic Church created the rite of exorcism to defeat him. Each of these possibilities comes with momentous consequences, though they all amount to the same thing - the full, apocalyptic potential of Bruce Banner's powers now walks the Earth, either gifted to a new host or sure to seek one out. Don't Confuse the New Hell Hulk With the Original This new 'Hell Hulk' shouldn't be confused with the version recently introduced in 2025's Hellverine. That monstrosity was a creation of the demonic Severith on behalf of Mephisto, exuding rage to infect others with anger. However, that creature doesn't seem to have any links to Bruce's exorcism, with Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone acting as a standalone story with no apparent links to events in Hellverine. It's more likely the name is a coincidence born of similar subject matter than shared lore. Marvel just introduced the new Devil Hulk as a result of Bruce Banner's exorcism, unleashing a devil-horned gamma monster and raising a list of new questions about how gamma ties into apocalyptic mysticism.
