Marvel Confirms The One Antihero Deadlier Than Punisher And Wolverine

A lot of the nuance exhibited by Marvel is in how complex or morally askew certain characters are allowed to be. This is why, in most cases, an antihero will usually be more compelling than, say, a run-of-the-mill hero or a cookie-cutter villain. Fortunately, there is no shortage of iconic Marvel antiheroes, especially in the life of Matthew Murdock’s Daredevil. Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett’s ongoing run finished its debut arc, featuring brand-new Daredevil villain Omen, and the ghost of Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin has since come back to haunt Hell’s Kitchen. In Daredevil’s latest arc, a beloved femme fatale has also returned, demonstrating that there may be no antihero more formidable than her. Elektra Is At The Top Of Hell’s Kitchen’s Food Chain It was only a matter of time, perhaps, but the two-part “Of Moles & Owls” arc depicted in issues #6 and #7 marked Elektra’s first appearance in Phillips and Garbett’s Daredevil run. Here, Elektra was a sight for sore eyes in a Hell’s Kitchen occupied by some of Marvel’s most iconic street-level villains and/or affiliations, including Silvermane, Tombstone, Hammerhead’s goons, and Mister Negative’s Inner Demons. Indeed, in what has amounted to a blisteringly quick cameo appearance, Elektra was the one to beat out the competition and get her hands on Fisk’s highly sought-after ledger. Elektra learns that virtually every crime family in New York City is at each other’s and Daredevil’s throats while hanging out in a subdued police officer’s cruiser. Then, when readers see her next, she’s littered the street before a cathedral with Inner Demon bodies. Daredevil notes that they’re still alive, but that only makes Elektra that much more terrifying as an antihero because she’s at the peak of her skill. Therefore, it’d be even easier to slay anyone in her way if she wanted to. Elektra Hopefully Isn’t A Flash In A Pan Sadly, it doesn’t seem as if Elektra will be making a massive splash in this run quite yet. Instead, Daredevil is abruptly and finally reprising a villain who vanished without a trace nearly 20 years ago (until Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider (2024) #8, anyway). The solicitation for Daredevil #8 reads as follows: FEAR GRIPS NYC! MR. FEAR, that is! When a new drug infiltrates E.S.U., MATT MURDOCK faces a new challenge threatening the student body... as DAREDEVIL faces off against a resurfaced madman! The stakes continue to rise for DD in the runaway hit series by STEPHANIE PHILLIPS and LEE GARBETT! And if you haven’t taken the plunge, leap in with this new arc and jumping-on point! Given that this will be a “new arc and jumping-on point” featuring the return of a classic Daredevil villain (or perhaps somebody new who’s assuming the legacy character’s mantle), it’s anyone’s guess whether the contents of Wilson Fisk’s ledger will be spilled any time soon, much less whether Elektra will stick around and become a recurring side character. To be fair, it didn’t seem as if Owl would be a recurring character, either. There’s a white-hot yearning that Matt may forever brandish when it comes to Elektra, but fellow Empire State University professor Sari Ellison has been simmering on low heat as a potential love interest, as well. Elektra not being around would surely help facilitate a possible relationship with Sari, though only time will tell if their acquaintance as colleagues could ever blossom into anything romantic, even if they never amount to Daredevil and Elektra’s steamy passion in Marvel lore.
