Marvel has announced plans to replace Unlimited, its app that provides fans with access to thousands of comics, with a new app it has worked on with Webtoon. Between pricing, refunds, and an overlap between Unlimited and Marvel Comics when both will exist, there’s quite a bit of confusion surrounding how this is all going to work. That’s what we’re here for. When Marvel Comics Launches And What It Will Include Marvel Marvel shared the news about its new app at New York Comic-Con alongside an update on its website for those not in attendance. The Marvel Comics app has been developed alongside Webtoon, an industry leader when it comes to digital comics, and it will officially launch worldwide on November 16, 2026. That’s one month before Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters. I can’t imagine that’s an accident. Marvel Comics will launch with more than 35,000 comics covering not just Marvel, but Star Wars too. That’s roughly how many are currently available through Unlimited, which hopefully means the current app’s entire library will be exported to Marvel Comics once the new way to access the superhero brand’s back catalog goes live next month. Exporting Your Unlimited Library And Subscription Refunds So, once Marvel Comics arrives, what happens to Unlimited? Well, it wouldn’t make sense for both to exist, although for a little more than a month, that will be the case. Marvel Unlimited will be shut down, but not until December 28, 2026. There are a few milestones Unlimited will hit between now and then. The app is no longer accepting new signups - that’s the first step. From December 7, Unlimited will stop receiving new content. Users will have until December 21 to continue reading what they already have on there, and then the full shutdown will occur a week later on December 28. One of the reasons Unlimited members will want continued access to the app is because they have content on there that they’ve redeemed and collected over the years. The good news is that can all come with you to Marvel Comics. Your library and any reading progress you made can be transferred to the new app; you just need to make sure you do it by December 7. One thing that won’t be transferable is your Unlimited subscription. That doesn’t mean you’re about to lose out on any money, though. If you currently have an Unlimited subscription that you’ve paid for beyond the date on which the app will be shut down, you will be refunded for the access you now aren’t going to get. How Much The Marvel Comics App Will Cost If you want to continue reading Marvel comics on the new app, that refunded money can be used to buy a new subscription at Marvel Comics. There will be two options available when the app launches on November 16. The base tier is $9.99 a month, and the Ultimate tier is $12.99 a month. Both tiers include access to Marvel Comics’ entire library; the only difference being base subscribers will have to wait three months for new comics, while Ultimate members will get them 30 days after they’re released. The Marvel Comics app will support both page-based and vertical scroll formats, and the driving force behind this full-scale rebrand seems to be to make the comic-reading process more personalized and accessible to new fans. The new app will include recommendations based on reader history and preferences, and include character and creator pages to make it easier to pick up on, follow, and track certain story arcs. If you have ever been tempted to dive into the wide world of Marvel comics, with a new app launching and Doomsday approaching, there has never been a better time.
