Jean Grey's MCU introduction in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a crucial catalyst for the X-Men, both because it makes anticipation for the upcoming X-Men movie reboot skyrocket and because it signals a long-deserved change in perception for key individual mutants like Jean. Jean's first MCU role as a main antagonist sets a high bar for how the X-Men’s Omega-level lore should weave into the existing cinematic universe, and that's even without dropping a single reference to the Phoenix Force. On a deeper level, Sadie Sink's first MCU appearance as Jean Grey teases a much-needed cinematic redemption. Fox's X-Men movies famously sidelined its mutant ensemble to prioritize Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique, leaving Jean's complex history largely unexplored, and her Dark Phoenix arc twice botched. With Jean Grey thriving in an interconnected universe from the start, the MCU has the opportunity to fully explore each and every single mutant character and give them their right place in the spotlight. Marvel understands the significance of Jean Grey's new journey in live-action, which is why X-Men's Phoenix will also start a new stage in her journey in other media, specifically the comics. Jean Grey's Dark Phoenix Form Will Return In Her Solo Comic Jean Grey #1; Written By Jed MacKay; Art By Roge Antonio Avengers and X-Men writer Jed MacKay and Cyclops artist Roge Antonio team up this year to follow Jean Grey's return to Earth after her time exploring the Phoenix Force and the White Hot Room. Unfortunately for Jean, no amount of psychic control is enough to tame the Phoenix Force, as Marvel confirms that her Dark Phoenix form will take over early on in her upcoming solo series. An official preview shows Jean Grey attempting to control the entity, remembering all the times in her superhero career where she succeded, only for the Phoenix Force to awaken. Jed MacKay and Roge Antonio's Jean Grey bring back one of the X-Men's most powerful heroes just as the DNX event pushes Earth’s mutant factions into an evolutionary crucible. Her return with the Phoenix Force may both help and endanger Cyclops’ team in X-Men and Rogue’s squad in Uncanny X-Men, as both factions currently struggle to fight 3X and a variety of ultra-powerful mystical threats. Since Jed MacKay writes both this solo title and the main X-Men flagship comic, Jean’s cosmic power will almost certainly intersect with the mutant community’s earthbound conflicts. Her presence offers a god-tier fallback option against threats like Cassandra Nova and the Orchis remnants, for example. Jean Grey #1 is available November 25 from Marvel Comics
