Published Oct 3, 2026, 8:37 AM EDT Exclusive: Marshals season 2 won't take too long to jump right into the events of the season 1 finale. Season 1 ended with two massive cliffhangers, involving Kayce’s son Tate (Brecken Merrill) and his Marshal comrades. After a brutal ambush, Tate faces another danger when his father unknowingly hands him over to wealthy rancher Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey), who is the real mastermind behind the mining militia. Meanwhile, at the end of Marshals season 1, Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel)were suddenly attacked by masked gunmen, leaving their fate unknown as the season ended mid-shootout. In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns, Hudnut shared that Marshals season 2 won’t kick off with a big time jump, as episode 1 picks up right after the events of the explosive finale. The showrunner assured that "We will answer a lot of those questions pretty early on in the first episode." He also hinted at the many realizations that Kayce will go through, as he tries to find a way to rescue Tate. Spencer Hudnut: Yeah, we're going to jump ahead about three seconds, I think. [Chuckles] We will answer a lot of those questions pretty early on in the first episode. There's a lot for Kayce to figure out and to unpack and to you know even realize that his son is in jeopardy. There's big questions about who we can trust, who we can't trust, and then on the parallel track is the team getting themselves out of their own trouble, and then realizing that maybe Kayce and Tate are in trouble of their own, and trying to see will those stories dovetail eventually? Marshals is Yellowstone's first sequel spinoff, continuing Kayce Dutton’s (Luke Grimes) story after the main show ended with the sale of the iconic Dutton ranch. Season 1 centered on Kayce joining Montana’s elite unit of U.S. Marshals, while dealing with the grief of losing his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), to cancer. Marshals season 2 features a genre shift with higher stakes for Kayce and the team. After spending a good part of season 1 proving himself, the next installment is expected to highlight Kayce's deepening bond with the team. Gil Birmingham as Chief Rainwater, Mo Brings Plenty as Mo, Ash Santos as Andrea, and Tatanka Means as Miles round out the returning cast. Season 2 will also introduce a familiar character, as Jefferson White returns as fan-favorite ranch hand Jimmy Hurdstrom. While Marshals has plenty of major questions to address, the season 2 trailer confirmed that Cal and Belle survived the ambush. Meanwhile, Kayce reunites with Tate, but the gamble on his son's life is just the beginning. Previews indicate that he will be forced to complete a task following a visit from Weaver's confidante. Despite mixed reviews, season 1's strong viewership solidified its quick season 2 renewal. Whereas most Yellowstone spinoffs usually air on Paramount+, Marshals was the first to air on a traditional broadcast network. It's not the only spinoff to run as Dutton Ranch, focusing on Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), was also renewed for season 2. Marshals season 2 premieres on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on CBS.
