Following the end of Yellowstone almost two years ago, the remaining Dutton offspring have scattered to their respective shows. Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton went off to Dutton Ranch on Paramount+, reuniting with Cole Hauser's Rip Wheeler. Kayce got his own show, as well, with Luke Grimes reprising the role in Marshals for CBS. Both approaches have proven successful. Dutton Ranch has broken viewership records for Paramount+. As for Marshals, it is an even bigger breakout. It is just behind the headline-grabbing final season of Stranger Things as one of the most-watched shows of the year, making Marshals season 2 all the more anticipated. CBS has unveiled the premiere dates for the upcoming 2026-2027 broadcast television season, confirming that Marshals season 2 premieres on Sunday, October 4 at 8:30 PM ET. It'll be joined by the network's other defining hit, Tracker season 4, which debuts new episodes on the same night at 9:30 PM ET. Marshals begins with Kayce having to pick up the pieces after a devastating life event, leaving the old world that he knew to join a group of U.S. Marshals. On a personal level, Kayce is left reeling by the unexpected death of his wife, Monica, which causes a strain in his relationship with his son, Tate, and leaves him unsure of what to do next. Brecken Merrill returns as Tate Dutton, joined by fellow Yellowstone alums Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham, but the Marshals cast largely consists of new additions to the Yellowstone franchise, such as Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Logan Marshall-Green, and Brett Cullen. The ending of Marshals season 1 puts some of those new characters in danger, but it's expected that the team will all be making their way back for the spinoff's second installment. The finale also establishes new villains for Kayce to face off against when new episodes release in October. Grimes mentioned that the action drama's sophomore outing will feature more episodes, noting in an interview with Collider that the episode count will increase from 13 to, potentially, as high as 20. That will give executive producer and showrunner Spencer Hudnut more space to mold Marshals into its own long-lasting TV staple away from the shadow of Yellowstone. But in any case, Marshals is off to a great start. The first season, just behind Stranger Things season 5, averaged more than 26 million viewers per episode and comfortably makes it the biggest show that CBS has on its roster.
