According to Deadline, an Ofcom spokeswoman said: “We are investigating a Fairness and Privacy complaint about Married At First Sight UK.” Earlier this year programme was hit with sex assault allegations after three wives made bombshell claims on a BBC One Panorama documentary The Dark Side of Married at First Sight. Back in May viewers watched the doc, fronted by BBC News culture correspondent Noor Nanji, which featured three female contestants who alleged sexual misconduct by their former on-screen husbands. Two of the women claim they were sexually assaulted during their time on the popular Channel 4 show, according to the BBC. However, the men deny all the allegations against them. Shona Anderson accused her on-screen partner of sexual misconduct, and claimed she had to have an abortion weeks after leaving the show. Priya Dogra, chief executive of Channel 4 said at the time: “I want to express my sympathy to contributors who have clearly been distressed after taking part in Married At First Sight UK. “The wellbeing of our contributors is always of paramount importance. “It would be wholly inappropriate for me to comment on what are very serious allegations made against some MAFS UK contributors. “Those allegations – which I understand are disputed by the contributors accused – are not something that Channel 4 is in a position to adjudicate on. “We are also mindful of our ongoing duty of care to all contributors, and the need to preserve the anonymity and privacy of all involved. “On the claims that Channel 4 may have failed in its duty of care, I believe that when concerns about contributor welfare were raised, and based on the information available at the time, Channel 4 acted quickly, appropriately, sensitively and with wellbeing front and centre.” MAFS UK premiered on Channel 4 in 2015. The show moved over to E4 in 2021 and has aired 10 series so far. Comment now
