Mark Mitchell’s hearing in Louisville postponed to Friday

We are sorry to inform you that there will be no update on Mark Mitchell‘s future in college basketball on Thursday. We’ve all been bamboozled, lied to, and misguided — or we didn’t do enough homework before driving over to the courthouse in Louisville. That’s most likely, if we’re being honest with ourselves. Originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, Mitchell’s hearing regarding his fight for a fifth season of eligibility has been postponed to Friday at 11 a.m. ET, court officials told KSR. I had boots on the ground with Steven Peake right behind me, ready to get into the weeds of Mitchell’s case against the NCAA alongside nine other athletes, one that specifically asks Judge Brian Edwards to open the transfer portal for all plaintiffs from now until next Tuesday, August 18. “He is not sure where he will play if granted another year, and is having difficulty with his decision because NCAA rules currently prohibit him from speaking with any coaches other than his previous school even though he has graduated and been declared eligible,” the lawsuit says of Mitchell’s potential recruitment. The plaintiffs are requesting a temporary restraining order, temporary injunction and permanent injunction for a fifth and final year of eligibility. “Petition for an order prohibiting defendant from enforcing a bylaw that is preventing plaintiffs from participating in NCAA Division I athletics for the 2026-2027 season due to them already having competed in four seasons already,” the document continues. KSR showed up, worked our way to the courtroom and were told we were exactly where we needed to be. After a long wait, I double-checked with the front desk official that everything was still on as planned, and he kindly looked into it for me, only to find that today’s hearing had been removed from the schedule and rescheduled for Friday morning. Missed it by that much. But hey, we do things in the most ridiculous manner possible around here, so what did we knock out before we left? A KSR Rapid Reaction, of course.
