The forward could have left for £40million this summer but clubs will now have to negotiate a new fee if he is to go. The United academy graduate still has until 2028 on his deal after agreeing a bumper extension three years ago. That is thought to be worth around £325,000-per-week at Old Trafford. And Rashford is now expected back at United training once he has had some time off after the World Cup. The England star has been away with his country since his loan at Barcelona finished in June. Rashford had hoped to remain at Barca after loving his season there but an option to buy him permanently for around £25million was rejected. Instead, Hansi Flick’s side went for Three Lions team-mate Anthony Gordon for over £70million. He played 49 matches in a variety of roles and is thought to be of interest to several clubs. Tottenham have previously been linked with the attacker, as have Bayern Munich. Rashford was a rotation option for Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup. He scored off the bench in the opening group game against Croatia in a 4-2 win. And Rashford then started the 2-0 victory over Panama two games later. But he was subbed for Gordon after an hour in the last-32 comeback against DR Congo – and barely played again. Gordon was ahead of him in the pecking order again from then on, with no minutes in the last-16 and quarter-final wins over Mexico and Norway. Rashford was used late on in desperation as England collapsed in the semis against Argentina on Wednesday. Meanwhile, United start their pre-season this weekend – the same time Rashford is due to be playing the third-place playoff against France. Michael Carrick is reportedly open to reintegrating him into the squad. But SunSport understands United are hopeful of completing a sale before the training camp in Dublin in early August. Rashford said earlier in the summer: “I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup, I wanted [a transfer] done before. “If it’s not, I wanted it to wait until after.
