Intriguingly, Shea Lacey appeared to have received an upgrade to 31 on the Hull programme, having worn 61 last term. That was later confirmed to be the case. It is possible that United notified Hull of Lacey’s squad number change before their editorial department went to press out of good faith. United figures stressed last week that not all squad numbers worn in pre-season were final. Rashford wore 14 on loan at Barcelona last season and the squad number is also free at United. He sported the No11 for England at the World Cup and received the No9 on loan at Aston Villa last year. United head coach Michael Carrick has spoken glowingly about Rashford since he returned to his parent club. “He’s come back really well. Very well,” Carrick said. “I think the way it is now and not having so much time off really, and looking at three weeks, maybe just under three weeks, give or take. “Boys don’t lose an awful lot in that time.
