Marcus Rashford arrives at Carrington as England star jets to Man Utd pre-season after being left without squad number

MARCUS RASHFORD was among seven players who travelled to the Republic of Ireland to link up with Manchester United teammates for their training camp. The club arranged for a private jet to ferry Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Karl Darlow, Benjamin Sesko, Senne Lammens, Matheus Cunha and Matthijs de Ligt across the Irish Sea. Rashford and Mainoo have now completed their mandatory three-week post-World Cup breaks after England and Argentina participated in the third-place play off and final last month. Sesko has missed all four pre-season friendlies so far as he continues his recovery from a shin injury while Lammens and Cunha were absent for the 1-1 draw with PSG due to illness. De Ligt has been out since November with a back injury and underwent surgery in May that will cause him to miss the start of the season. Rashford has not played for United since he was substituted in their 2-1 Europa League win at Viktoria Plzen in December 2024. The 28-year-old has not trained with teammates since January 2025 as he has spent spells on loan at Aston Villa and then Barcelona. Rashford is United’s highest earner on £325,000 a week and has two years left on his contract. The club privately remain open to selling him. United have also scrapped plans for an open training session at Carton House amid suspicions that Rashford’s presence has influenced the change in plans. Amazon will also be sending a crew to film United’s stay in Ireland as cameras start rolling on the All or Nothing documentary that will chart the club’s upcoming season. Rashford does not have a squad number at United after Cunha received the ‘10’ last year. Arsenal and Tottenham are both in the market for a winger and sources close to Rashford have welcomed links to the Premier League clubs, though it is unclear if either side will move for the England international. United coach Michael Carrick clammed up when asked about Rashford by Norwegian broadcasters VG after United played PSG. Carrick noted he and Rashford have “history” as Carrick was the captain when Rashford made his United debut against Midtjylland in February 2016. United play Leeds at Croke Park on Wednesday but Rashford is likelier to get a run-out against AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday. Comment now
