Map reveals UK’s easiest driving test routes with winner securing 70 per cent pass rate

As revealed in research conducted by Rio Driving School and OMS, the site conducted 1,699 tests between April 2025 to March 2026, of which more than 1,183 learners were successful. In fact, Scotland features three times on the list, with Cumnock, in East Ayrshire (Scotland) and Arbroath, also in Angus, revealing a 67 per cent and 66 per cent pass rate respectively. Taking this into account, the areas with the highest pass rates appear to be in more rural areas, where quieter roads and fewer complex roundabouts all help improve chances of successful tests. But, those learning to drive in big cities may be less fortunate. Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands, has been consistently named as one of the hardest areas to get your licence, with a mere 34.3 per cent pass rate. The area was also crowned the worst in 2024, at an even more concerning 32.4 per cent rate. Most read in Motors Parts of Liverpool, Greater London, Manchester and Glasgow also feature highly on the list, where although more tests are conducted on the whole, just a fraction of them pass. This is likely due to tougher driving environments, including more traffic and pedestrians, multi-lane roads, and roundabouts. This comes as test centres are still experiencing a backlog, with an average waiting time of three to four months for most areas.
