Manhunt launched for convict, 45, who failed to return to open prison as public told ‘do not approach’

NewsUK News COPS have launched an urgent manhunt for a lag who failed to return to an open prison – as the public are warned “do not approach”. Edwin Newman, 45, is missing after leaving HMP Sudbury, in Derbyshire, on day release on Thursday morning. The prisoner is serving a sentence at the Category D prison for threats to kill and false imprisonment. He was last seen wearing grey trousers, white t-shirt, grey Nike jumper and blue Nike trainers, according to Derbyshire Police. Officers have urged anyone who sees Newman – who is understood to have links to Weymouth and Manchester – to contact them. They have been asked to get in touch online or via phone quoting the reference 1103 of July 16. The force said: “We are appealing for the public’s help after a convict failed to return to Sudbury open prison after a period of day release. “Edwin Newman, who is serving a prison sentence for threats to kill and false imprisonment, left the open prison at 11.40am on 16 July and failed to return later that day. “The 45-year-old is described as being white with a bald head and stubble. Most read in The Sun “He was last seen wearing grey jogging bottoms, a white Ben Sherman t-shirt, grey Nike jumper and blue Nike trainers. “Newman has links to Weymouth and Manchester.” It comes as cops launched a manhunt for another prisoner who casually walked out of a hospital. Marwan Jumaa, 20, is serving a sentence for attacking two women and is considered a risk to himself as well as other people, according to police. CCTV footage released by Greater Manchester Police showed Jumaa casually leaving the hospital unaccompanied in a light blue T-shirt. Jumaa absconded after he was transferred from a secure hospital facility to North Manchester Hospital for hospital treatment. Police had issued an urgent appeal for any information or intelligence on his whereabouts. It was later announced in the early hours of yesterday that he had been arrested by Lancashire Police.
