Manhunt after shots fired forcing school into lockdown

Roads were cordoned off on the estate near Astral Park yesterday after the incident, which led to a pursuit of suspects who remain at large. The police were alerted after reports of gunshots being heard shortly before 3.30pm on Grebe Drive, Leighton Buzzard. A nearby lower school was placed in lockdown as a precaution for a short period, the police said. Armed officers were sent to the neighbourhood and they later spotted a vehicle believed to be linked to the firearm incident. When the driver was told to stop and refused to pull over, a chase started, leading them on a pursuit into Dunstable around 10 miles away before a crash. Bedfordshire Police said: ‘The car came to a stop in Porz Avenue, Dunstable, when it collided with an unrelated vehicle. ‘One man was treated at the scene for minor injuries. ‘The occupants of the suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot – a search of the area is currently underway. ‘Porz Avenue remains closed between Boscombe Way and Lovatt Road roundabout while emergency services respond to the collision. Residents are asked to avoid the area at this time and seek alternative routes if driving. ‘We understand this is a concerning incident but would like to reassure the public that a strong police presence will remain while initial enquiries take place. ‘Additional scene guards are also in place in Grebe Drive and on the A505.’ Got a story?
