Mangalore University will resume issuing hard copies of marks cards to undergraduate students from current academic year, says V-C

Dharma said on Tuesday (September 29) that the university will resume issuing hard copies of marks cards, semester-wise, to its undergraduate students from the academic year 2026-27.He informed the Academic Council meeting that the hard copies will be issued to students who joined the courses for the first semester of the current academic year. Students in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth semesters will continue to get the consolidated marks card after passing the sixth semester.Mr. Dharma said that the university switched over to issuing consolidated marks cards, at the end of sixth semester, two years ago following the direction from the government. Students protested against this and demanded that semester-wise marks cards be issued. Now, the government has allowed the universities to revert to the old system.The Vice-Chancellor said that the universities will print the marks on the paper (card or sheet) supplied by the government and universities are not allowed to purchase the paper sheets to print the marks card.PhD guidesMr. Dharma said that the university will come out with a list of guides (or teachers) in government degree colleges who can guide PhD candidates of the university. Such guides should have taught postgraduate students for a minimum of 10 years and will have to fulfil other mandatory requirements. The university has prepared a tentative list of such teachers. Of them, the recognition as guides will be given to the eligible persons after screening.The council in its meeting approved the Revised Regulations Governing the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), 2026.Study circleThe Vice-Chancellor said that the university has opened a study circle to motivate students to join government jobs. It will sign an agreement with an organisation which has come forward to train and guide students for free to appearing for competitive examinations for government services.The council allowed Alva’s College, Moodbidri, an autonomous college, to offer Tulu as an optional language at the degree level. It also allowed the same college to offer MBA in Healthcare Management, MCA and BSc in Hospitality Science.It also allowed Vivekananda College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Puttur, an autonomous college, to offer BSc in Data Science.
