Manchester United boss Michael Carrick gives Mason Mount update and breaks silence on Marcus Rashford return

MICHAEL CARRICK has downplayed concerns over Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount’s latest injury. Mount was substituted after 20 minutes in United‘s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg but jogged off the pitch. The former Chelsea player has been used in central midfield by Carrick during pre-season after he ended last season in a deeper role. United are still lacking an available defensive midfielder, despite bolstering the area with summer signings Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Carrick also confirmed Marcus Rashford’s imminent reunion with United after an 18-month absence from the first team squad. Rashford is scheduled to travel to Dublin for United’s training camp that coincides with their penultimate friendly against Leeds United at Croke Park. Rashford has not played for United since a Europa League tie away to Viktoria Plzen in December 12 2024 and has spent spells on loan at Barca and Aston Villa, but he could be in line for a return for his parent club. Carrick was the United captain when Rashford made his debut against Midtjylland in February 2016 and also coached and managed the 28-year-old. “I’ve played with him,” Carrick added. “I played in the game he made his debut, so we have a history. “We have a full squad next week in Dublin. We fly straight there and meet Leeds on Wednesday. “We have a few days in Dublin where we have the whole squad, including Marcus, Kobbie (Mainoo) and Lisandro (Martinez).” Comment now
