His contract runs until next summer, but as he is neither a scholar nor part of United’s full-time model due to being homeschooled, he could technically leave in 21 days due to his Irish passport. Brexit rules mean English players must be 18 to join a team in Europe, unless they are a dual national with a EU country, subject to Fifa approval. Gabriel has an Irish passport as his father Joe O’Cearuill won two caps for the Republic of Ireland. However, SunSport understands that they do not hold out major hope of signing him currently. Spain has been a long-term dream destination for Gabriel and his family, but Arsenal and Chelsea are also linked. Gabriel recently wiped out his social media and deleted any mention of United. The forward, who joined the club aged 11, did not report to training on Saturday. He will have been hoping to feature in the cup competitions for United this season and might have seen their Champions League campaign as a chance to shine. But he was not included in United’s A-list for Uefa, which runs to 25 players. And he was too young to be included in the European B-list which allows a handful of academy stars aged 16 and over to be picked.
