Man Utd player ratings: Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford suffer horror show with Cunha best of a bad bunch

MANCHESTER UNITED salvaged a 1-1 draw as Fulham narrowly missed out on their first Premier League win of the season. In a week where Michael Carrick‘s side lost a 50 year record at Old Trafford, Matheus Cunha’s deflected strike saved United from a first defeat at Craven Cottage since 2009. Senne Lammens – 6 The Belgian was United’s best player before a pathetic mistake saw him push out the ball to Martinez for Fulham‘s opener. Before that, Lammens came up with several saves with his hand and foot. Was kept busy by his backline’s vulnerabilities and Fulham didn’t have their shooting boots on. Denied Kevin after United went behind but Bernd Leno perhaps a better afternoon. Diogo Dalot – 4 Alex Iwobi won’t have an easier afternoon this season as strode down Dalot’s flank to set up chance after chance. Every move seems half-hearted and lacked determination. Harry Maguire – 5 Cut a frustrated figure as he debated with Martinez at times. Both Maguire and Martinez were left wide open on the counter by United’s midfield. United shifted into Maguire up front territory the final embers. That’s how desperate their performance was. Lisandro Martinez – 4 Scored a disastrous own goal as he should have booted the clearance away in a horror show at the back. Fittingly too, after being booed for his country’s antics at the World Cup. Most read in Sport Was denied by a brilliant Leno save after 10 minute, but was second best in battle with Fulham‘s summer signing Gonzalo Garcia and Josh King. Luke Shaw – 5 Struggled on his return. When Fulham decided to give Dalot a rest, Fulham switched attention to the right hand side for King and Oscar Bobb to give Shaw the run around as he often came too narrow. Youri Tielemans – 5 Too often outmuscled and outbid by Fulham’s midfield duo of Shea Charles and Sander Berge. The 29-year-old lacks pace and struggles to press with intent. Made up for his slow half with a delicious through ball for Rashford. Kobbie Mainoo – 6 The England midfielder oozes composure and was tidy on the ball again to continue the trend of being of the better United players this season. United fans booed Mainoo’s substitution for Mason Mount with ten minutes left. Bruno Fernandes – 5 The captain looks resigned. He hit the post and led United’s press as he so often does, but it left huge chunks of space behind him in the structure. Fernandes has not got ticking this season yet, which is hurting United, who were over-run again. Bryan Mbeumo – 5 The right side triangle of Mbeumo, Tielemans and Dalot left a lot to be desired. If Rashford was always criticised for his lack of defensive cover, it’s only right that Mbeumo’s is mentioned. Marcus Rashford – 5 Started the afternoon as United’s most creative player across the opening matches, but the England star struggled to find his range, spurning two huge chances before the break. Usually lethal on the counter, his passing were often underhit and wayward too. Hobbled around before he was replaced with 15 minutes on the clock. Disappointing and wasteful. Matheus Cunha – 6 Improved after some poor performances. However, the strikerless system that worked last season should be retired. The Brazilian is not a No9 and looked frustrated out there. Did well to dig it out from the byline to deliver a perfect ball for Fernandes’ effort that hit the post. By no means perfect though as he should have been stronger when trying to claim a foul from Calvin Bassey in the lead up to 1-0. Subs: Joshua Zirkzee (Rashford, 76) – 6 On target chance in stoppage time. Mason Mount (Mainoo, 81) – 5 Picked off. Patrick Dorgu (Shaw, 84) – On the receiving end of chances at the end. Comment now
