Man Utd ‘discuss Igor Thiago transfer’ with Red Devils looking to add competition for Benjamin Sesko

MANCHESTER UNITED are keeping tabs on Brentford star Igor Thiago as they look to add significant firepower to their frontline this coming season, reports suggest. United manager Michael Carrick has been focusing on midfield additions during the summer transfer window with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while also eyeing further targets. Jacobs revealed the Red Devils are weighing up a swoop for Thiago, 25, after a stunning campaign that saw him finishing as the Premier League’s runner-up in the goalscoring charts. United have even contacted the Brazil international’s camp but negotiations are still at an early stage. And it will be “incredibly difficult” convincing Brentford to sell their star asset. Jacobs told The United Stand: “Igor Thiago has been discussed, somebody that’s Premier League ready. “Nothing more than that at this stage, more of an internal conversation and a normal player call to understand his situation. “Getting him out this summer will be incredibly difficult.” Most read in Football SUN VEGAS WELCOME OFFER: GET UP TO £100 BONUS Thiago amassed 25 goals and one assist in 40 appearances across all competitions last season. The Brazilian would add tremendous competition for Benjamin Sesko, who registered a total of 12 goals and one assist in 32 appearances in his debut year with United. Sesko, 23, mostly operated as an impact player off the bench under Carrick and is currently nursing a shin injury. And Joshua Zirkzee’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain as he attracts interest from the Serie A with Juventus posing as favourites for his signature. Comment now
