Man Utd consider Lewis Hall transfer raid with Red Devils ready to capitalise on Newcastle disarray

MANCHESTER UNITED are weighing up a move for left back Lewis Hall amid the latest disarray at Newcastle. United consider Hall, 21, to be the ideal long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, who is out of contract next year. Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali for a combined £170million and Bruno Guimaraes is wanted by Arsenal. Hall is also under contract until 2029. Hall could be persuaded to stay, depending on who replaces Howe, but an added complication is that Newcastle have not sold a player to United since Andy Cole’s then-British record £7m move in January 1995. United want to bring in a left-sided player and are now prepared to cash in on teenage left back Harry Amass. The struggle to sell Marcus Rashford, United’s highest earner on £325,000 a week, effectively prohibits United from recruiting a left-wing specialist. United have several specialist and auxiliary left backs but Shaw recently turned 31 and lacks an outright competitor. Patrick Dorgu has started all three of his games under Michael Carrick as a winger, Amass spent last season on loan and rookie Diego Leon is still training with the under 21s. He played out of position to offset the absence of injured right back Tino Livramento, who was ironically included in Tuchel’s squad. Hall was switched to right back for Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest Howe in their penultimate fixture before Tuchel announced his 26-man squad. Former Chelsea defender Hall was also substituted at half-time in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in April before starting the next two games against Arsenal and Brighton on the bench. Comment now
